Internationally renowned artist Volker Stelzmann, professor at the Berlin Academy of Fine Arts until 2006, is represented in important international collections. The artist who, due to his elaborate technique and his subtle palette, can be placed in line with some of the great masters like El Greco and Rubens, or de Chirico and Otto Dix, will present a selection of works created between the 80s and today. The main work of this exhibition, dated 1985, is a quadriptique called “Anschlag” (Attack). We see bodies twisted in the moment of an explosion, loosing contact with the ground before they are projected into the air. A snapshot of a drama. An imposing work because of its realism. The exhibition also shows some street scenes where we see people walking by ignoring each other, pursuing an unknown objective, or who seem to be involved in a ferocious fight for some obscure reason. Other works are inspired by mythology or simply portray objects that are part of our daily environment and gain here a new aesthetic dimension. All together 14 paintings accompanied by 12 magnificent works on paper where the artist demonstrates his great skill in pen, Indian ink, gouache and watercolour drawing.
